Dear Brothers and Sisters:
It is hard to believe the holiday season has arrived. Many of us will soon be attending family dinners and parties and beginning to plan our New Year’s resolution. For a moment, let us remember the history of Thanksgiving. In 1621, the Pilgrims celebrated their first harvest in the New World with their families and Native American friends. It is well documented that there were 35 Pilgrims and 90 Native Americans attending that first harvest festival of thanks. In 1863, some 242 years after that first celebration by the Pilgrims during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed that this Nation’s celebration of thanks should be known as a National Day of Thanksgiving and praise to our Father in Heaven. Thus, began the Thanksgiving holiday on the last Thursday of each November. As we look at our country during this 2016 Holiday season, we can see that our belief in a Supreme Being, our principles of Virtue, Liberty and Patriotism are as important in today’s world as it was in 1853, when the Junior Order United American Mechanics was founded. Let us continue to share with those less fortunate the blessings God has so richly given each of us. In closing, I leave you with these thoughts and hope that each day, we take the time to say thank you to God, our family members and friends and above all, tell them how much you love them. Have a safe and happy holiday season and my personal wish to each for a Happy Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. Yours in V., L., & P., Dennis R. Once again we as Americans are reminded of the evil that lurks in the minds of some. Whatever caused this young Muslim man, Omar Marteen, to be radicalized to the point that he chose to take the lives of innocent fellow Americans must be a topic of concern for us all in the future. Although we may not agree with the lifestyles lived by others, we as Junior‘s must affirm the rights of all citizens to live and conduct their lives as they see fit. Upon becoming a member of our organization, we affirm our belief in a Supreme Being and we know that only God will judge us all when our time on earth has ended. Loving one another is needed throughout our world. I ask that each of you to pray for the victims and their families in Orlando, Florida. May God give them the strength to bear the unbearable. Yours in Virtue, Liberty & Patriotism, Dennis R. Everett National Councilor Dear Brothers and Sisters:
Once again we as a nation face the ramifications of a tragic week for so many families. I am at a loss as to how to express our sorrow to all. All lives matter and as the children’s song reminds us Jesus loves all the children, red, yellow, black and white. Communication, caring, listening and helping each other is needed throughout our nation and the world. Love is the answer and we need to be kind and truly treat one another as we want to be treated. I am reminded of the loving, caring environment we provide for all at our American Children’s home which is an excellent example for us all to follow in our own communities. Our hearts are heavy with the recent tragedies and I ask each to pray for those who are suffering loss, pray for our nation and most of all pray for peace and understanding for all.
